Tift Regional Acquires Georgia Sports Medicine and Surgery Center

Tift Regional Health System (TRHS) recently announced that it has acquired Georgia Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic in Tifton as well as its ambulatory surgery center and now employs the practice’s three general orthopedic surgeons, one orthopedic spine specialist, five physician assistants, one nurse practitioner and office support staff.

In addition to Georgia Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic (now named Georgia Sports Medicine), TRHS owns South Georgia Surgical, Affinity Clinic, Affinity Pediatrics, Affinity Hospital Medicine, Allure Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of South Georgia, Tift Regional Pain Management Center, WorkSmart Occupational Health and various primary care outreach clinics located throughout South Central Georgia.

The orthopedic surgeons at Georgia Sports Medicine include Dr. James Scott, Dr. Bill Smith, Dr. Edward Hellman and Dr. David Banks. Physician extenders include Cal Ridley, P.A., Chase Spell, P.A., Francis Wisham P.A., Kris Murphy, P.A., Jimmy Watson, N.P. and Randy Lane, P.A. TRHS is currently recruiting an additional orthopedist to join the group. “This arrangement will enhance the level of orthopedic services offered by Georgia Sports Medicine,” said Dr. Smith. “The hospital’s physician services infrastructure will provide us with business support and allow us to focus more on patient care. Tift Regional has also agreed to build us a new clinic facility, which patients and their family members will appreciate. Construction will start within the next year.”

The practice’s ambulatory surgery center, formerly known as Tiftarea Surgical Partners, LLC, is now called the Tift Regional Outpatient Surgery Center. Patients will receive a bill from Georgia Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic, PC and/or Tiftarea Surgical Partners, LLC for any services performed prior to June 1. For any services performed after this date, patients will receive a bill from Georgia Sports Medicine and/or the hospital as a part of Tift Regional Health System.

Located in Tifton at 1610 John Orr Drive, Building A, Georgia Sports Medicine offers a wide array of orthopedic care. Services include general orthopedic surgery; spine/neck orthopedic surgery; diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the bones, muscles, tendons, nerves and ligaments in adults and children; sports medicine; arthroscopic surgery; joint replacement surgery; arthritis treatment; fracture care; physical and occupational therapy; and, diagnostic imaging.
