TribLive News reports the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) has gained approval to expand its neurosurgery academic program.

This expansion will allow the program to include 28 residents, making it the largest program in the country.

UPMC’s increase to their program comes at a time when more and more cash-hungry hospitals are beginning to look to brain procedures to increase revenues, as it has been found neurosurgeons generate more revenue per physician compared to other specialties.
