PIH Health announced that it has acquired Downey Regional Medical Center (DRMC), which will now be known as PIH Health Hospital — Downey. According to the Whittier Daily News report, the announcement follows a long process, which began more than three years ago, and included PIH Health getting approval from the state Attorney General to acquire DRMC in August.

There will be a transition period, leaders said, for the operations to be coordinated and the name change to be fully implemented. PIH Health will now have approximately 5,000 employees — with 15 to 20 job openings at the Downey campus. Along with the two hospital sites, PIH Health has 22 health service locations.
